Introduction

Microsoft has made HiBob’s native integration with Microsoft Entra generally available, giving organizations a new way to automate employee identity lifecycle management. For IT teams, this matters because workforce changes often require fast, accurate provisioning and deprovisioning to reduce delays, help users stay productive, and limit security exposure.

What’s new

The new GA integration connects trusted HR data in HiBob with Microsoft Entra so workforce events can trigger governed identity actions.

Key capabilities

  • Automates identity lifecycle events for joiners, movers, and leavers
  • Supports both hybrid and cloud-only identity environments
  • Lets IT control attribute mappings, scoping rules, provisioning policies, and governance
  • Works with Microsoft Entra ID Governance for lifecycle workflows, entitlement management, and access reviews
  • Helps organizations modernize identity management without a full immediate migration from on-premises systems

Two integration options

HiBob Marketplace offers two deployment paths:

  • Windows Server Active Directory (Hybrid) integration for organizations that still need on-premises directory identities
  • Microsoft Entra ID integration for organizations managing identities directly in the cloud

How it works

When employee data changes in HiBob, the platform sends the relevant workforce information to Microsoft Entra. Entra then applies IT-defined scoping and attribute mapping rules, and governance tools can trigger onboarding, role-change, or offboarding actions.

Examples include:

  • Creating accounts for new hires
  • Updating access when department, manager, job title, or location changes
  • Deactivating accounts quickly when employment ends

This keeps the process HR-driven, IT-controlled, and cloud-managed.

Why this matters for IT admins

For administrators, the biggest benefit is reducing manual handoffs between HR and IT. Instead of relying on tickets, scripts, or custom integrations, teams can use a more standardized process for identity updates across on-premises and cloud resources.

This can improve:

  • Provisioning speed for new employees
  • Accuracy of role-based access changes
  • Offboarding consistency and security
  • Visibility into lifecycle actions through Microsoft Entra

It also supports organizations that are gradually moving toward a cloud-managed identity model while maintaining hybrid infrastructure.

Next steps

If your organization uses HiBob, review which integration model fits your environment:

  • Use the hybrid option if Active Directory remains part of your identity architecture
  • Use the cloud-only option if identities are already managed in Microsoft Entra ID

A practical starting point is to automate a high-value process such as onboarding or offboarding first, then expand governance and lifecycle workflows over time.
